100 Cupboards

We have been reading the book “100 Cupboards” a brilliant book which is making us all think. The students in room 3 have all written a chapter which describes one of the cupboards on the attic wall, and how Henry and Henrietta experienced the cupboard.

Chapter 5 by Tessa Olsson
Henry gazed at the cupboard that was sitting right before him with Henrietta staring at it over his shoulder. “Should we open it?” Henrietta says her eyes glued to the old rundown cupboard. “It doesn’t look very inviting” Henry replies “It looks I don’t know old and rundown”. “So” Henrietta says. Her hands leap forward to the cupboard. Suddenly a strong gush of wind comes rushing in. Papers and books start flying around the room. Henry and Henrietta quickly grab onto the covers on the bed, but they gave way and flew to the back of the room with Henry and Henrietta following close behind. They hit the back of the room with a thud. To there luck the wind stopped. “Are you OK?” Henry asks Henrietta generously” yeah how about you?” “I’m fine” Henry replies and helps Henrietta to her feet. Some papers are disturbed by the light breeze in the room and are flouting around carelessly. Blake the cat was watching in astonishment. A sudden hiss and a spit came from Blake and he ran out the room. Henry and Henrietta slowly turned their heads. The old cupboard was open. “Go close the cupboard Henry” Henrietta asked. A big gulp came from Henry, Henrietta smirked. “Are you scared” Henrietta giggled. Henry scowled at her. “I’m NOT scared” Henry replies angrily. Henrietta starts to walk around the room acting like a chicken. “bockark bock bock bock” Henrietta says laughing “STOP IT!” Henry replies. Henrietta obediently stops. “Come on Henry just go close the cupboard would you” Henrietta says. Another big gulp came from Henry and he muttered something under his breath. Finally Henry goes to close the cupboard. His hands meet the old rotting wood. But something growled.

Chapter 9 by Maggie McCafferty

It was a rainy afternoon, Henry & Henrietta were sitting in Henrys room just wondering what cupboard they would pick, In the very corner Henrietta spotted a bright pink cupboard and shouted with delight “oh lets take this one its so pretty” then turned to Henry with a pleading look on her face, “Ok ok but we better be prepared because it looks like a trouble maker cupboard”.

They entered the cupboard excepting for something bad to float there way, but to both of there delights it was a bright sunny day. As soon as Henrietta turned around she saw a track going up  a hill and marched right up it Henry was still looking around and didn’t realise that Henrietta was gone.

Over the hill Henrietta spotted a group of pixies dancing around in a circle, she was so fascinated by it that she found herself being pulled towards them, the very next second she was dancing around with them, but when she tried to go out of the circle she couldn’t move her hands. It was a trap.

Mean while Henry was having the time of his life he had found a fun fair with everything you could imagine in it. It had roller coasters, bouncy castles, candy floss, merrigorounds and the biggest water slide he had ever seen in his life. So with out a second he raced over to the water slide.

Henrietta was still struggling to get her hands un clasped but for some reason it felt like there was a spell on her to keep dancing round in circles. Then she realised it was a spell, she would have smacked her self in the head a hundred times but obviously she couldn’t. Man Henrietta felt like a complete idiot.

After Henry’s 6th go on the water slide he thought why hadn’t henrietta been sliding right next to him. He glanced around the fun fair and to his surprise Henrietta was on the bouncy castle looking as happy as could be, but he didn’t see the green goblin standing behind him making a spell. The goblin was making him see Henrietta.

Henrietta was getting tired she wished she had never gone up that track, out in the distance Henrietta spotted something that was shining, she just couldn’t reach it, just then a man came by, Henrietta was screaming, suddenly the man swung around, um can you please pass me that piece of gold paper over there, The man got the piece of paper and put it on the ground in front of her, she tried to read it but it started to dance as well, Henrietta shouted “STOP” everything went silent Henrietta read aloud “Silly pixies dancing around I will put a spell on you.” The pixies started to scream and ran away. Henrietta recognized these footprints they were Henry’s.

Mean while Henry was staring at Henrietta he was yelling but nothing happened. Henry turned around he saw another Henrietta he didn’t know which one was Henrietta, so he picked the Henrietta that was bouncing on the bouncy castle, He got closer and ran strait up to her, He grabbed her but his hand  just smacked into the wall, he suddenly realised that he had been put on a spell, he felt stupid He ran out and couldn’t see Henrietta any more, he suddenly saw her coming down the slide.

He ran to her, she was so happy to see him.  “We’d better get out of here before we get into any more trouble”  They followed the track that Henry had made.  They climbed back into the cupboard, they both closed the cupboard tight and got a drink of water.

Chapter 10 by Sonya Harnett

After Henry had his dinner he walked up stairs and hopped in to bed. He tried to get to sleep but the cupboards were stuck in his head. He thought of cupboard thirteen then he thought of cupboard twenty

but he kept thinking of cupboard thirteen. He hopped out of bed grabbed his torch and walked out of his room ,and went down stairs. Just before he walked down stairs he heard a voice whisper “Henry” Henry recognized the voice he knew it was Henrieta. She asked Henry “what are you doing” “ I am going to open grandfathers room so I can find cupboard thirteen” Henry unlocked the door and opened it he could not believe his eyes he saw a man looking through the whole book shelf.  Henry had seen the man before he was the man in a purple robe. Henry looked at Henrieta and looked in the room again it was amazing the man had completely disappeared Henry and Henrieta walked in and got the journal and looked for cupboard thirteen to open it it said to push the door and it will open then put your hand in the back of the cupboard and then it will give you your path. Henry and Henrieta raced up stairs to cupboard thirteen he saw the cupboard

it was covered in heaps of nice pictures. He was sure this cupboard was going to be a good cupboard. He pushed on the door and it opened then he put his hand in the back of the cupboard and there was the path. Henry stared in to the darkness of the cupboard and he crawled in. Henrieta was waiting at the door of the cupboard “is it ok” she asked “ I think it  is” replied Henry so Henrieta crawled in after him. When they got in at first they saw a little doll house. After they crawled in further it got darker and darker and the space that they were crawling in got larger and larger. While they were crawling Henry looked up and saw a red light in a distance as he got even closer he saw that the red was the shape of a skull as he got even more closer  he saw a man with his back to him he had  a black cape on with a hood. “Henrieta Henrieta can you see it” whispered Henry “what” Henrieta said

loudly “shhh” said Henry “who was that “ said the man in a black cape in a gruff voice. “ah it’s Henry and Henrieta”said Henrieta. The man turned around and looked at him “oh Henry the whimp” said the man. “How do you know about me”said Henry “and by the way I’m not a whimp” said Henry “yes you are” said the man “no I’m not said Henry “how dare you answer me back, you must be punished” said the man.

Chapter 11 by George Sadler

Henry woke up without opening his eyes, he suddenly remembered the journal and sat up quickly. He reached over to his bedside table. He felt the hard covered journal, he picked up the journal and scanned it. He was flicking through when he saw a dark furred cupboard witch looked like possum fur, and right in the middle was a human skull. It was locked with a big chain sliding down the side. He looked at his new clock. It was 3am, then he turned around and searched for the cupboard. There, on the wall,was a scary-looking cupboard with a skull on it. Henry felt a grumbling feeling inside and he felt like he would throw up, witch he did. Luckily, this time he didn’t faint and even luckyer, Henrietta wasn’t there. After his thing, he felt much better and closed his door so Uncle Frank and Aunt Dotie won’t find out. Henry touched the cupboard. It felt like sandpaper. Then he felt the eyes, and they were marble. But as he did that, the eyes started glowing. He took a step back. He remember endoor. He remember what it could do. The cupboard started growling, it
spited in half and opened up. Henry could just fit in it. Without thinking, he bent down, and crawled inside.

The most unexpected chapter by Brad Skudder
One peaceful morning Henry was having a big sleep in until Henrietta came stomping up the stairs and yelled “good morning!”   She was jumping up and down on Henry’s bed “get ready to open up some of those cupboards. Get up and get ready!”   “Just another hour” said Henry. “No” said Henrietta dragging Henry down the stairs. “Time for porridge” yelled Dotty. “Told you Henry” said Henrietta “lets try get a cupboard open after breakfast.”  “sure” said Henry saying it sarcastically. “This is the best porridge Aunt Dot” said Henry “thanks” said Aunt Dot “We’re going to Rotorua do you want to come or stay with Henrietta? she really wants you to stay but you don’t have to.”  “I’ll stay”  “I have put a list of what to do then” so when the rest of them went Henrietta yelled to Henry “we have to light the fire at six” “ok” said Henry so they went out and played in the barn and stuff like that. They kept checking the time and the last time they checked the time it was six. Henrietta said “that went quick” “time flies when your having fun” said Henry “time to light the fire,”  “oh I totally forgot”.  They opened up the door of the fire and they saw a little code thing. “hey what’s that?” said Henry “a little code” “oh oh” said Henry “Frank said that something came in the mail for me, He said that it was some type of code thing. Lets go get it then.” so they went and got the code and it was the code so they opened up the big door and they saw another door! It had the same code thing and it opened up and they heard screaming and there were witches flying on their brooms. They went more into the cupboard there was a trip wire but Henrietta and Henry didn’t see it and they fell into a hole and this big evil witch and her animal screeched “you fell for my trap haha!! be ready  to be turn into pumpkin soup hahaha!!!”  “you laugh too much, you do” said Henrietta “you two better shut up! evil cat kill them!” and after that the evil cat ripped them to bits.

One morning Henry woke up went to Henrietta’s room and quietly woke her up “Henry Henry Henrietta wake up come on lets go look at the cupboards lets go look at a new one come on come on lets go.” so Henry and Henrietta went back to Henry’s room and  peeled off all of the posters and stared at all of the cupboards for a little while. Henrietta said “lets open that one” “ow no that one looks a bit scary” said Henry. “so we are going to open all of them any way” said Henrietta. “but but ow ok then.” Henry was to afraid to look in it so he didn’t watch Henrietta so he just lay face down on his pillow. Henrietta opened the cupboard and she said “it’s empty” Henry said back “push the back of it” “i’m trying it’s to hard come here you try” said Henrietta. “Ok than” said Henry so Henry walked up to the cupboard put his hand inside and pushed the back and it opened. “Well Well Well that wasn’t hard was it” “but your the master any way so it’s not fare” whispered Henrietta “look it’s really dark in there” whispered Henry “put your hand in” whispered Henrietta. “No way why don’t you” said Henry scardlly. “Ok i will i’ll show you that i am not scared “ so Henrietta    put her hand in the cupboard and said quietly “i can’t feel anything” look inside and see if there is any light down there” said Henry “ok” said Henrietta and she sounded very scared. Henrietta looked inside the cupboard. “ i think i can see a bottle or something” “put your hand in and get it”  so Henrietta retched in and crabbed the bottle “i can’t it’s stuck give me your knife i will try and cut it off” so Henry gave Henrietta his knife. Henrietta had the knife in her hand put her hand into the cupboard put the knife to the bottom of the bottle and sliced the knife across and then through the knife onto Henry’s bed and grabbed the bottle “i’ve got it i’ve got the bottle”.

Henry and Henrietta were in the kitchen, they were having a late snack, “Henry, are you still mad at me?” Henrietta asked. Henry didn’t say anything. “When you apologise I will forgive you” Henry said in a vicious way. “Ok I owe you that much, I am sorry that I went in to the black cupboard and got angry at you” Henrietta spoke like she didn’t care. “Year you were really stupid, really stupid!” Henry grabbed his sandwich, took a bite and looked at Henrietta. “Ok I forgive you” Henry said in a soft voice. “Ok lets go back up to your room, right now come on!”Henrietta jumped up tipping her lunch everywhere. “Ok, ok I’ll meet you up there, I’ll take these dishes up to the sink” Henry started to walk up to the sink with the dishes in his hands. Henrietta ran up to Henry’s room excitedly! Henry turned on the tap, he grabbed the plug and put it in the drain, and put in the dishwashing liquid, he started to clean the dishes. “Hmmmm” Henry hummed, once he had finished cleaning, he put the dishes on the rack to dry. Henry opened up the door to the hot water cupboard, he looked around for a tea towel he finally found one in the corner, Henry grabbed it and discovered something extraordinary, Henry had found another cupboard. Henry covered up the cupboard, and ran up stairs Henrietta was waiting for Henry beside the cupboard wall. “Where have you been I’ve been waiting up here for nearly 10 minutes” Henrietta growled at Henry “Henrietta, Henrietta you won’t believe what I’ve found, it’s so cool!” Henry yelled. “Well, what are you waiting for, come on” Henry and Henrietta ran down stairs, to the hot water cupboard and Henry opened up the door and removed the tea towel “Wow!” Henrietta yelled as she examined the cupboard “I wonder wants it’s name?” Henrietta asked. Both kids looked at each other in astonishment. Henrietta ran up stairs to Henry’s room and got the journals, and ran back down to the kitchen. “There’s nothing in here that looks like the cupboard” Henrietta said as she passed the journals to Henry. Henry flipped through the pages. “Here, heres a similar cupboard” Henry gave the journal to Henrietta. “ Yeah, quick cover up the cupboard and we’ll go and take a look at it” Henry covered up the cupboard with two tea towels and a big towel, so then no one would see it if they were to take off a tea towel or something. When Henry got up to his room, Henrietta had all ready found the cupboard. It was labelled Stairashiftea number 99. That’s an odd name Stair-ra-shift-ta hmm” Henrietta said spacing out the sounds. “Do you think that the cupboard down stairs could be the hundredth cupboard?” Henry asked Henrietta shrugged. “Wait on, this flower looks like a staira flower it means mazes in Latten. Their very rare and poisonous!” Henry said   “let’s go take a look at the cupboard down stairs and we’ll search what the flower looks like on the computer here take notes with this pad and pen, and I’ll turn on the computer!” Henry passed over the pad and pen and ran down stairs. “Click, click!” It sounded like a key “Oh, no!” Henry yelled “Henrietta we forgot about the others!” Henry ran back up the stairs yelling! “Oh no how could we forget!” they both rushed the wall of posters over the wall. “Quick get a board game or something!” “Henry, Henrietta where are you?” It sounded like Penny and Anastasia they were running up the stairs to Henry’s room, the door swung open like a jet on run way “What are you doing” Anastasia  asked “ You two, you two playing chess really I would think that you would be in the barn or something” Anastasia grabbed Henrietta and dragged her to the door. “Anastasia let Henrietta go!” they all turned around, it was aunt Dotty! “Go back down stairs, I’ve made you all some lunch do you want some lunch you two?” Aunt Dotty asked “year why not” Henry and Henrietta followed them down stairs. That night Blake was guarding the hot water cupboard like his life depended on it! From inside it was glimmering like a thousand stars there were banging and screeching inside “Meow!” Blake screamed and everything went quiet! In the morning Henry and Henrietta got up at the crack of dawn. Blake was sleeping in front of the hot water cupboard door. The cupboard, was as calm as water. Henry and Henrietta ran down stairs to the cupboard. Henrietta jumped she opened the hot water cupboard door. Henrietta gasped, “What is it?” Henry asked, he walked over to Henrietta and gasped everything in the cupboard was destroyed and thrown around and the hot water cylinder was crushed and water was everywhere all over the tea towels and cloths they were exposed all over the place. Both kids looked at each other, then they looked at the cupboard door. It was swung open!

The Big Chapter by Hope Campbell

It was a bright and sunny day but Henry was up in his attic room with Henrietta staring at a dark indigo cupboard it scared Henry but Henrietta thought it was awesome because every five minutes there was a BANG!! on the other side then smoke rose, it had a big skull for a handle it was 7:00AM.BEEP, BEEP!! there goes the alarm because today Henry and Henrietta were home alone the rest of the family was going to the school fair but Henrietta said that they would get teased by the big kids uncle Frank and aunt Dotty agreed. So there they stood Henry with his knife and Henrietta with her hand on the  handle, the cupboard was as big as a dog house so Henry and Henrietta could get throw to the other side of the cupboard if there was another side to the cupboard .

One boring afternoon henry was in the bathroom and suddenly he heard a knock on the door it wasn’t the bathroom door then. henry heard a voice it wasn’t henrietta because she was outside playing with a ball, “Henrietta” yelled Henry “I found another cupboard” Henrietta ran up the stairs.
“I will go get the journal from granddad’s room” said Henrietta, by the time Henrietta was back henry had got the door open had his hand in the door “I will grab some thing out of the door” said henry “ the cupboard number is 16” said  Henrietta “I fell some thing gummy I thing it is gummy bears” yelled Henry.
“Do u want to go get some dinner and we will come back and read in granddads journals about the cupboard after because my tummy is starting to grumble” said Henrietta “Quick I thing Aunty dotty is calling us run” said henry.

One morning Henry heard a voice calling Henrietta. He jumped out of bed and looked down the hall he saw Henrietta walking down with her eyes shut .  He felt sick but this time he knew it was not the black cupboard because this sickness felt different, like some one had winded him except he could breathe. He knew it was another  evil cupboard.  He did not want to go look where Henrietta was going but he knew he should, so he did.  Suddenly  she stopped and opened the the cupboard.  It was light inside, Henry was surprised but then he saw bloody hand prints and heard screaming.He yelled “Henrietta get away from there” but she did not wake up
she walked inside.

The Arm by Ben Olson
Henry looked across the room, when something caught the corner of his eye. It is a cupboard, he ran over to the cupboard, and called for Henrietta. They turned the two cranks, when they opened it, suddenly something grabbed Henry’s arm.

Then Henry threw up on the things arm, and he, well the thing said, “Oh disgusting! Now I really need a shower.” Henry shut the cupboard turned the two cranks and locked it all up in a second. “I wonder what that was?” they said

The Last Chapter by Ben Coster

One day Henry woke up and noticed a cupboard was open and all these killer spiders were rampaging out at Henry “ARGGGGGGGGGG” screamed Henry! Henrietta shot up the stairs to see what the noise was. “ why are you screaming” said Henrietta confused. “LOOK” Henry yelled as he pointed to the spiders and rummaged to the top his bed. “WHOAH” Henrietta yelled. “HELP!!” Henry cried. “MEOW” Blake meowed as he came up the stairs “CRUNCH,CRUNCH,CRUNCH”. “YUCK” they both yelled as Blake nibbled on all the little spiders heads. The spiders came non stop but Blake just ate them all up. Blood was flying all over the room. This big spirit flys out of the cupboard and says “YOU FOOL” !!!!!BOOM!!!!! Everything goes even their memories.
