Welcome to our classroom. Room 4 is a composite class of New Entrants, Year One, and Year 2 children. Each child comes with their own unique experiences, stages of development, and expectations.
We value individuality and during the first few weeks will assess by observation, testing, and prior knowledge, how we can best meet your child’s needs and extend their learning journey within the bounds of the curriculum.
Ours is an open classroom. You are welcome to come in at any time and take part in our programme. If you have special skills to share e.g. Music or Maori culture ( don’t feel limited by these suggestions ) please talk to me about how you could help.
I would welcome parent support at Swimming sessions ( 11.30 a.m. daily) as safety is always our first consideration and there are 18 little children in the pool area. Your son or daughter will be grouped according to their capability. Please send their swimming gear every day with all clothes named.
Our Library day is Thursday. Children are able to choose a book to take home for a week to share with you. It is important to return the book promptly so that they can get another one.
Once the reading level is established, children will bring home a book from the class instructional sets to read with you, and this must be returned the next day in their bookbag.
There is also a ‘Communication Book’ in which notes are glued and other comments may be noted. Please feel to write me notes e.g. …’had a late night and may be tired’, ‘……has lost their shoes. Could you remind them…..?’ The book stays in the bookbag and should be checked regularly.
The PTA runs a lunch service on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. I hope to be able to advise you details of this as soon as items and prices
are available. This service is always looking for parent volunteers to supervise taking orders in the morning or to join their hardworking group.
The over-riding school theme for this year is ‘Being Part of Global Communities’. In Room 4 we start by looking at ourselves, who we are, what we can do, what we like, our families, etc, and how we relate to others in our own community. We go on to look at connections to other cultures, what we have in common, what makes them the same and what makes them different.
We will also take a look at some common and some endangered animals, both in New Zealand and other countries. During March we will take a trip to either Marshall’s Animal Park or Hamilton Zoo depending on cost.
If you are concerned about any aspect of your child’s schooling you will find I am very approachable and together we can find solutions so please talk to me.
Educating your child is a team effort. Welcome to our team.
