Writing in Kea

Ruma Kea had a fantastic first week back to school. I am really enjoying getting to know all the students. How lucky are we to start the term off in a brand new classroom!? As an introduction to writing a personal recount, we have spent some time working on using discerning adjectives in our writing. That means we are thinking carefully about our word choices. We want to “show” the reader what is happening, as opposed to telling them. This creates imagery (a picture in their mind) and makes our writing much more engaging.

Here is a beautiful description of Sammy’s favourite season. Can you guess which one it is?

“The familiar heat from the fire warms me up. As I look to the frozen window I see the pale snow and glimmering ice. I am snuggled up in a blanket watching a movie. It feels warm and relaxing.” – Sammy.
